Central Asia program receives gender training

Members of the research team of the Central Asia Regional Program, managed by Michigan State University, traveled to the IPM IL Management Entity's offices at Virginia Tech to attend the workshop “Training the Trainers: Gender and Participatory Methodologies in Agricultural Research” presented by Dr. Maria Elise Christie, Director of Women in International Development, on May 14, 2010.

Participants were asked to consider the two basic questions of gender research: “How does gender affect our projects?” and “How do our projects affect gender?”

Linda Racioppi, a participant in the workshop, said “our involvement with this IPM IL is fitting into a wider initiative at Michigan State University, to be active internationally in this part of the world.”

Activities at the workshop included gender awareness exercises and discussion, cluster and heterogeneity activities, an introduction to participatory methodologies, and open-forum discussions.
